Job Summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a highly skilled Probation Service Officer to join its Public Protection Team in Greater Manchester. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in supporting the Offender Management in Custody (OMiC) model and Pre-Release teams for both unconvicted and sentenced individuals in prison.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Basic Custody Screening Assessments to identify the immediate resettlement needs of individuals in prison.
  • Attend and complete pre-release plans and referrals made by Resettlement Boards in prison establishments.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and support with Community Probation Practitioners to complete relevant referrals for cases being released from any prison establishment.
  • Attend the link Probation Delivery Unit weekly to support with Pre-Release Resettlement Planning and maintain an ongoing interface remotely.
  • Utilize computer-based systems to produce, update, and maintain records and other documentation.
  • Provide effective communication with staff and partner agencies.
  • Offer cover in teams where required.
Assessment Centre

Candidates will participate in an assessment centre, which will include interview questions and a presentation. This will provide an opportunity for us to assess your skills, experience, and fit for the role.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking the full range of work with offenders before and after sentence. This will include assessment, sentence implementation, offender management, and producing reports. You will provide case management support to a full range of offenders, utilizing service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Working Arrangements

This role requires travel to Probation Delivery Units and other locations within Greater Manchester. You may be required to work out of hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the service.
