Our Dedication to Diversity and Inclusion

We believe in empowering all employees to express their perspectives, ensuring that diverse viewpoints are acknowledged and appreciated. Our teams are multi-disciplinary and co-located, valuing transparency, accountability, shared responsibility, and collaboration. We focus on our users and the Financial Times' mission to deliver engaging, world-class journalism.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and implement new functionalities for our web and mobile applications utilizing contemporary web technologies.
  2. Engage with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, and UX Designers, contributing innovative ideas to meet our organizational objectives.
  3. Uphold our rigorous standards for web performance, security, and accessibility.
  4. Contribute to enhancing our workflows and the tools we utilize.
Technological Environment

We utilize a variety of tools and technologies, including but not limited to:

AWS Lambda, Kinesis, and DynamoDB; Heroku; Handlebars; Sass; Webpack; Preact; Fastly and VCL; GitHub; CircleCI; Sentry; Graphite; Grafana; Splunk.

While we do not expect you to be familiar with all of these technologies, experience with some will be advantageous.

Your primary expertise lies in web development, and you are eager to contribute across all stages of the development process.

We seek candidates who bring unique perspectives to our work. We firmly believe that diverse viewpoints enhance our product and strengthen our team.

Desired Attributes
  1. Proactive and pragmatic in approach.
  2. Detail-oriented with sound judgment.
  3. Passionate about learning and sharing knowledge—whether through pair programming, presentations, documentation, workshops, or mentoring junior team members.
  4. A genuine interest in web technologies, performance optimization, and a commitment to accessibility.
  5. Understanding of design and user experience principles.
  6. Preference for using appropriate tools for specific tasks rather than relying solely on frameworks.
Our Recruitment Process

We recognize that technical interviews can often be unnecessarily stressful, so we have designed our hiring process to be thorough yet welcoming. We do not engage in whiteboard coding or closely monitor your coding process.

We are dedicated to promoting equality and diversity within the tech industry and are particularly eager to receive applications from individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.

Working in Customer Products

The Customer Products team comprises over fifty engineers working in small, cross-functional groups with opportunities for team rotation.

We ensure that our engineers have the necessary tools to succeed. Team members can choose their operating system and device type, and we encourage the exploration of new tools and methodologies. We support both informal knowledge sharing and formal training opportunities.

Benefits Overview

Our benefits vary by location, but we are committed to offering top-tier perks across all our offices, along with an inclusive environment for career development. Examples of our benefits include generous annual leave, flexible working arrangements (including remote work), medical coverage, enhanced parental leave policies, subsidized gym memberships, and community engagement opportunities.
