We are looking for an Assistant Finance Business Partner to join the Financial Services to Schools Team at Leeds City Council, as well as a role within Financial Services for the Children and Families directorate. We have one permanent position and one temporary position available.

The Financial Services to Schools team provides support to all maintained schools in Leeds. The role of Assistant Finance Business Partner is diverse and demanding, where you will contribute to the delivery of our financial services to schools. You will be expected to cultivate and maintain robust relationships with head teachers and business managers, assisting them in establishing and overseeing their school budgets while offering professional advice on financial management. Additionally, you will participate in training and various projects within the team.

About You

As an Assistant Finance Business Partner, you will:

  • Establish credible and collaborative working relationships with officers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills to present clear financial information to decision-makers.
  • Support Finance Business Partners in problem-solving and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Possess a solid understanding of core finance processes and hold at least AAT part qualification or equivalent.

About the Role

We seek an enthusiastic and proactive individual to fill the Assistant Finance Business Partner position in our esteemed school finance team. You will closely collaborate with a portfolio of schools, delivering high-quality financial information and guidance.

We are also looking for a temporary Assistant Finance Business Partner to support the Children and Families directorate.

Job Purpose: The Assistant Finance Business Partner will work as part of a team providing comprehensive financial management services to senior officers and budget-holders in both directorate-based and school-based settings. The post-holder will embody the Council's values and behaviors to help achieve our goal of being the best council in the country.

By ensuring that accurate, timely, and user-friendly financial information is central to decision-making, the Assistant Finance Business Partner plays a vital role in promoting efficiency and effectiveness within the council.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Finance Business Partners in delivering timely and accurate financial information and advice to budget-holders and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with budget holders to ensure accurate and timely budget monitoring for identified budgets.
  • Assist in identifying long-term trends in demand, demographics, inflation, and other financial parameters.
  • Help budget holders in planning and monitoring budgets assessed as 'Low/Medium Risk'.
  • Take responsibility for coordinating, developing, and appraising team members to help them reach their full potential.
  • Monitor and support performance improvement while utilizing a coaching approach to develop team members.

Qualifications:

  • AAT part-qualified or equivalent, which may include substantial relevant work experience in a financial environment.

  • Proficiency in standard IT applications used in office environments and computerized financial ledgers.
  • Understanding of health and safety responsibilities.

Experience Required:

  • Experience with all aspects of the annual financial cycle.
  • Experience providing financial services in a complex organization.
  • Proven ability to maintain strong working relationships while delivering financial advice.
