PhD Studentship in Macrophage Biology

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our research team at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project with Prof Ravi Gupta and Dr. Daniele Corridoni at AstraZeneca, focusing on the biology of macrophages and their role in cancers and inflammatory diseases.

Project Overview

Macrophages have diverse phenotypes and functions depending on their microenvironment, and play important roles in various conditions such as inflammatory arthritis, wound healing, cancer, and infectious diseases. Our project aims to understand the biology behind heterogeneity in macrophage phenotypes and explore the therapeutic potential of new insights into macrophage biology.

Research Objectives
  1. To investigate the impact of cell cycle transitions on macrophage biology
  2. To explore the role of low oxygen conditions in driving macrophages from G0 to G1
  3. To identify the mechanisms underlying the upregulation of IL1b in macrophages
Methodology

We will employ a range of techniques, including cell culture, molecular biology, and bioinformatics, to address the research objectives. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team and develop their skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual with a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of cell biology, molecular mechanisms, and experimental design. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential for this role.

What We Offer

The University of Cambridge offers a competitive studentship package, including a stipend, tuition fees, and research expenses. The successful candidate will also have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and a supportive research environment.
