The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate to join its Office of the General Counsel (OGC). As a key member of the OGC team, you will provide legal assistance and support to counsel across a range of matters, from substance to complexity.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist legal advice in a multi-disciplinary team to protect EBRD's interests and ensure compliance with internal policies.
- Support legal teams within OGC, particularly the Sustainable Finance Governance and Regulation (SFGR) Unit, by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documentation.
- Conduct legal research, analyze risks, and recommend solutions for counsel's consideration.
- Monitor and review the work of outside counsel, carrying out initial reviews and discussing comments with counsel.
- Assist counsel in carrying out sector-specific or team-wide activities, including advising clients on climate and nature risk governance and developing transition plans.
- A law degree from a leading university and a postgraduate law degree from a leading university, or equivalent work experience in a country other than the home country.
- Normally not less than three years' prior work experience as a lawyer in private practice or a comparable working environment, ensuring familiarity with OGC legal teams, documentation, and drafting and negotiation skills.
- Experience in sustainable finance and reporting, climate governance, and/or natural resources, particularly mining, is desirable.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, enabling drafting and negotiation of legal documents. Preferably fluent in a language of one of the Bank's countries of operations.
- Excellent project management skills, ability to monitor and follow up on many activities concurrently under time constraints, and ability to understand and manage priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to explain legal matters and provide guidance in resolving legal issues.
