Job Title: Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing specialist psychological services to patients across all sites and sectors of care.

Job Summary:

The post-holder will be responsible for providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy to adult patients, as well as offering advice and consultation on patients' psychological and neuropsychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and other non-professional carers. The ideal candidate will have experience working in physical health settings/medical teams, ideally with experience of working with chronic health conditions.

Main Duties:
  1. Provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy to adult patients across all sites and sectors of care.
  2. Offer advice and consultation on patients' psychological and neuropsychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and other non-professional carers.
  3. Use research skills for audit, policy and service development and lead on research projects within the area served by the team/service.
  4. Work autonomously in the execution of these duties and within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Psychology Teams, Department and Trust policies and procedures.
  5. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
Requirements:
  • Postgraduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
  • Further training in a specialised area of clinical practice through formal post-doctoral training (diploma or equivalent) or a combination of specialist short courses together with an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice as assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equivalent level to a postgraduate diploma.
  • Completion of formal clinical supervisor training sufficient to be able to supervise doctoral trainees.
Desirable:
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Experience:
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
Other Requirements:
  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy.
