Role Overview

This position involves fieldwork across various locations.

The Solar and Battery Storage Technician will engage in operations and maintenance activities at utility-scale battery storage facilities and ground-mounted solar photovoltaic plants. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure these facilities maintain exceptional safety, quality, and performance standards while adhering to operational budgets, as part of a leading team of renewable energy experts.

To qualify, you should be a certified electrician with experience in managing and maintaining large-scale power generation facilities, possessing both direct current (DC) and high voltage (HV) electrical competencies. This is a permanent position requiring weekend on-call availability as part of a rotation, with an overtime compensation structure in place. A company vehicle, smartphone, and laptop/tablet will be provided. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Solar & Storage Operations and Maintenance Manager, your duties will include:
  • Adhering to and promoting health and safety protocols while enhancing safety standards across facilities
  • Achieving and maintaining Authorised Person status based on training and experience
  • Conducting scheduled inspections and maintenance in accordance with legal, technical, manufacturer, and contractual standards
  • Inspecting, testing, and maintaining equipment and facilities
  • Performing AC and DC system testing, troubleshooting, and fault resolution
  • Executing reactive maintenance and promptly diagnosing and resolving issues
  • Troubleshooting and repairing sensors and communication systems, including RS485, Ethernet, and fiber optic networks
  • Configuring computer-based devices and components, including firmware updates
  • Occasionally assisting with site maintenance, cleaning, or mechanical tasks
  • Overseeing subcontractors, ensuring their safe operations, and conducting quality assessments of their work
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and generating reports
  • Communicating effectively with the Operations and Maintenance office and team
  • Traveling between various sites and offices
  • Occasionally working away from home for training or site coverage for up to one week
  • Completing other tasks as assigned
Knowledge Requirements
  • Familiarity with central inverters is advantageous
  • Understanding of High Voltage operations
  • Technical knowledge of AC, DC, SCADA, instrumentation, and communication networks
  • Essential understanding of solar photovoltaic technology
  • Desirable knowledge of HVAC, fire protection, and security systems
  • Basic understanding of battery storage technology, with training available
Experience Requirements
  • Experience in creating, reviewing, and modifying Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Collaboration with equipment vendors for fault diagnosis
  • Experience in DC and LV installation, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning
  • Experience in remote work environments
  • Solar PV installation and operations & maintenance experience (MW-scale or large commercial ground-mounted)
  • Desirable experience in battery storage installation and operations & maintenance (MW-scale)
  • Experience in installing or maintaining Ethernet and fiber optic communication systems
  • Experience with SCADA or data monitoring systems
  • Experience working with central inverters
  • Experience with High Voltage switchgear
