About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Carer Support Worker to join our Community Mental Health Team at Pennine Care NHS FT. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting carers of individuals with severe and enduring mental disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional and practical support to carers, ensuring they are well-informed and supported in their caring role.
  • Work closely with clinical teams to offer support to carers in their own right, promoting their involvement and engagement in the care and treatment of their loved ones.
  • Support carers to attend clinical team reviews, ward rounds, and CPA meetings, ensuring their voices are heard and valued.
  • Collaborate with Local Authority, the voluntary and community sector, and other NHS agencies to increase carer identification and recognition.
  • Facilitate the delivery of carer support in a group setting, promoting the Triangle of Care standards and principles.
  • Provide carers with information and advice about services, both within and external to the organization, to enhance their caring role and knowledge of care and treatment processes.
  • Work collaboratively with carers and clinical teams to ensure carers feel involved and supported in the care and treatment of their loved ones, in accordance with Service User consent, Trust Strategic Priorities, and Carers Engagement Procedures.
  • Have knowledge of the identification and support required for young carers.
Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of mental health problems, treatments, and related procedures to underpin support for carers.
  • Knowledge of the range of issues affecting carers, including carers assessments and how to access them.
  • Knowledge of existing, new, and emerging technologies and social media to engage carers and enable them to feedback about their experiences.
  • Awareness of policies and procedures related to confidentiality, information sharing, and safeguarding.
  • Knowledge of the Carers Act and the Triangle of Care.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including service users, carers, other professionals, and members of the public.
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of clients with differing levels of needs.
  • Ability to articulate carers' views and represent a balanced view in MDT working.
  • Ability to run a carers' group in conjunction with other team members.
  • Ability to access and contribute to the Trust Electronic Patient Record.
  • Ability to complete records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to balance a range of tasks with competing demands.
  • Positive regard for carers and understanding of the importance of involving them in the service user's care and recovery journey.
Education and Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Good basic education, including English to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Carer awareness training or willingness to undertake training.
Experience
  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs.
  • Experience of working in a role that involves contact with families and carers.
