Position Overview
The Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking dedicated pharmacy technicians to enhance our inpatient services. The successful candidates will be responsible for administering medications during rounds, assisting with the reconciliation of medications during patient admissions and discharges, and providing comprehensive medicines management and optimization services to our wards. This role is vital in supporting the physical health of our patients.
The postholder will collaborate closely with pharmacy professionals, including pharmacists and other pharmacy technicians, ensuring a cohesive approach to patient care.
Key Responsibilities
The primary objective is to deliver technical pharmacy services that enhance the quality of patient care within the Trust. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting medication administration rounds
- Screening patients upon admission, liaising with GPs and other healthcare providers to gather medication histories and advising on discrepancies
- Providing smoking cessation support to inpatients
- Identifying potential pharmaceutical issues during discharge planning and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to address them
- Dispensing and verifying prescriptions
- Offering guidance to patients and their caregivers
- Supplying necessary stock items to dispensaries and wards
- Assessing patients' own medications for use during their hospital stay
- Ensuring compliance with departmental procedures in all activities

Qualifications
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3, BTEC, or an equivalent nationally recognized qualification in Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Desirable:
- Accreditation in Medicines Management or equivalent experience
- Accredited Checking Technician qualification
Training
Essential:
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Health & Safety / COSHH regulations.
Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrable post-qualification pharmacy work experience, covering key skill areas and relevant specialties.
- Patient consultation skills
- Experience adhering to standard operating procedures
- Experience in medicines optimization
