Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic General Practitioner to become a part of our welcoming and supportive team, offering 4 sessions per week, with flexibility for alternative arrangements or job sharing.

  • Comprising 4 Partners and 3 Salaried GPs (7 WTE)
  • Comprehensive Nursing Team, including Nurse-Led Minor Illness & Chronic Disease Management, Health Care Assistants, Physician Associate, and Administrative support
  • A collaborative, well-structured team with a strong track record in quality outcomes
  • Active participant in local commissioning groups and federations
  • Support from Community Health Staff (Health Visitors, District Nurses, Physiotherapists, Community Matrons)
  • Opportunities for student teaching and mentorship

  • On-site Complementary Therapy Suite
  • Fully computerized system (System1), minimizing paper use

Key Responsibilities

  • The post-holder will be available to perform a variety of duties as per the Practice timetable, including in-person consultations, online consultations, telephone inquiries, home visits, managing repeat prescriptions, and addressing queries and correspondence promptly.
  • Making independent, professional decisions regarding patient issues, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare professionals.
  • Evaluating the healthcare needs of patients with undiagnosed or complex conditions.
  • Conducting screenings for disease risk factors and early indicators of illness.
  • Collaborating with patients to develop health care plans in accordance with current Practice protocols.
  • Providing counseling and health education to patients.
  • Managing patient admissions and discharges, and making referrals to other healthcare providers as necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely consultation records.
  • Collecting data for quality audits.
  • Issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, minimizing handwritten prescriptions.
  • Prescribing in line with the Practice's formulary or generically when clinically appropriate.
  • The post-holder will undertake all standard duties and responsibilities associated with a General Practitioner in primary care.

ELM HAYES SURGERY delivers primary care services to a patient population of 9,100 from modern, purpose-built facilities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhering to all relevant Practice policies and guidelines, including those related to prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, and health and safety.
  • Committing to ongoing professional development and quality improvement to ensure evidence-based best practices.
  • Contributing to clinical audits and standard-setting within the organization.
  • Assisting in the development of electronic patient records.
  • Participating in training and events organized by the Practice or other relevant agencies.

  • Patients trust us with sensitive information regarding their health and personal matters, and it is our duty to respect their privacy and confidentiality.
  • The post-holder may have access to confidential information about patients, staff, and the Practice, which must be treated with the utmost discretion.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining health, safety, and security as outlined in the Practice's Health & Safety Policy, including:

  • Utilizing personal security systems in the workplace as per Practice guidelines.
  • Identifying and managing risks associated with work activities.
  • Keeping up-to-date with training to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Following appropriate infection control procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Reporting any identified potential risks.
