Job Title

Principal Engineer - Nuclear Process

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to lead a team of Mechanical and Chemical Engineers in Plymouth. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the on-site process of nuclear systems, projects, and maintenance of pipes, pumps, and tank systems around the site.

The role involves leading engineering analyses, including calculations, component structural analysis, and system fluid flow analysis. You will also be responsible for supporting the development and operation of new facilities for the defuel of decommissioned nuclear submarines and providing technical guidance on the safe transfer, storage, treatment, and disposal of radioactive liquid effluent from in-service submarines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Mechanical and Chemical Engineers in Plymouth
  • Support the on-site process of nuclear systems, projects, and maintenance of pipes, pumps, and tank systems
  • Conduct engineering analyses, including calculations, component structural analysis, and system fluid flow analysis
  • Support the development and operation of new facilities for the defuel of decommissioned nuclear submarines
  • Provide technical guidance on the safe transfer, storage, treatment, and disposal of radioactive liquid effluent from in-service submarines

Requirements:

  • Experience in a Principal or Senior Engineering role
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles for the design, operation, and maintenance of pressure/pipework systems
  • Education to degree level in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Chartered or nearly chartered in the industry
