This project, funded by Horizon Europe, focuses on showcasing a variety of innovative technologies relevant to the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic design of propellers. The initiative is dedicated to creating effective experimental and computational tools aimed at enhancing the design and assessment processes for next-generation propellers, specifically tailored for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles in Urban Air Mobility applications.
The opportunity allows for collaboration with both industrial and academic partners, contributing significantly to the Urban Air Mobility sector and promoting sustainable aviation. You will become part of a dynamic team of dedicated researchers across Europe. The University of Bristol hosts the UK National Wind Tunnel Facilities, including specialized setups for propeller aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. As a successful candidate, your primary responsibilities will involve conducting experimental studies, gaining valuable insights, and acquiring hands-on experience in designing and executing tests utilizing advanced measurement techniques.
Key ResponsibilitiesYour role will include:
- Designing and constructing test setups.
- Conducting wind tunnel experiments to analyze single and multi-rotor configurations under various design and operational scenarios.
- Collaborating with a Research Associate in the numerical team to enhance our understanding and methodologies in performance prediction and evaluation of next-generation propellers.
The results of this project are anticipated to be published in leading journals within the field.
Candidate ProfileYou should consider applying if you possess:
- A postgraduate research degree in aerodynamics or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Research experience and a solid understanding of aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and fluid mechanics.
- Proficient data post-processing and analytical skills using programming languages such as Matlab or Python.
- The ability to commence work promptly.
