Contract Overview:
This position is a temporary contract with a local authority focused on housing allocations.
Position Summary:
The role involves delivering a professional and effective allocations service, ensuring that the housing register, allocation of council-owned properties, and nominations to partner housing providers are managed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Handle complex inquiries related to housing allocations, including eligibility for the housing register and the prioritization of applications.
2. Conduct thorough assessments of housing applications to determine eligibility and priority levels based on the housing allocation policy and legal guidelines.
3. Evaluate applications with medical needs, making informed decisions regarding priority levels and suitable property types, and refer complex cases to medical advisors when necessary.
4. Ensure comprehensive verification of applicants' circumstances through interviews and assessments, adhering to policy and procedural standards.
5. Collaborate with the council's ALMO and registered providers to advertise available properties and manage the allocation process during choice-based letting cycles.
6. Maintain accurate administrative records in line with policies, including regular reviews of applications and updates on applicants' circumstances.
7. Work in partnership with various departments and external organizations to identify housing needs and ensure the effective application of the housing allocation policy.
Essential Qualifications:
- Proven experience in housing allocations is required; experience in housing options is not acceptable.
- Strong understanding of current housing legislation, including the Housing Act and related laws.
- Familiarity with local and national policies regarding housing allocations and nominations.
- Knowledge of welfare rights and related financial issues is advantageous.
Additional Information:
- The role is primarily office-based.
- Reporting to the Housing Allocations and Quality Manager.
- Part of the Housing Solutions Service within the Communities & Opportunities Directorate.
