Job Purpose

A skilled manufacturing and assembly technician will be responsible for completing all mechanical elements of space battery builds to specific instructions and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health and safety of everyone within the area of responsibility at all times, adhering to risk and COSHH assessments, safety protocols, and relevant PPE usage.
  • Accountable for ensuring the safety of products and hardware, including adherence to relevant safety measures.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for adhering to company and department performance processes.
  • Responsible for cleanroom processes and maintaining a clean and operational environment.
  • Accountable for the completion of all training provided by the company, including cross-training within other departments.
  • Set up and use equipment in preparation for assembly tasks execution.
  • Complete all manufacturing documentation during the manufacturing process.
  • Accountable for all manufacturing mechanical tasks, including spot welding, pull testing, mechanical assembly, application of Kapton tape, glues, arathane, and other materials.
  • Deliver allocated activities and tasks on time and to quality standards.
  • Responsible for limited battery testing activities after training.
  • Read, understand, and follow build documentation, including technical drawings (training provided).
  • Raise material or purchase requests to the Manufacturing Team Leader.
  • Support updates to the department's QMS and process documentation.
  • Apply relevant standards and process guidelines specified in the manufacturing documentation (e.g., BMS processes, ECSS specifications).
  • Support project documentation review processes.
  • Responsible for supporting manufacturing mechanical processes training documentation, delivery of training, and assessment of training outcomes.
  • Support build process risk reviews and assessments.
  • Support non-conformance reviews and apply lessons learned as required.
  • Communicate task processes and activities effectively.

Requirements

  • Understand a manufacturing process and activity.
  • Education in an engineering subject is beneficial.
  • Demonstrate a hands-on approach to mechanical assembly.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Strong experienced background in assembly operations.
  • Two to five years of relevant assembly experience, ideally in Aerospace manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Commitment to hardware safety as top priority.
  • Experience and understanding of basic electrical test equipment functionality.
  • Strong attention to detail, logical, and proactive approach.
  • Strong adherence to following instructions and tasks.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Business-minded and process-driven attitude.
  • Proficient skills with MS Office / Office 365 suite of programs.
