Position Summary

We are excited to announce an opportunity to join Harrington Starr as we expand our operations and prepare to launch essential services. We are in search of an experienced Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Lead who possesses strong leadership skills to enhance the operational and non-functional aspects of our platform, focusing on availability, performance, efficiency, monitoring, and incident management.

In this role, you will take a hands-on approach while leading a small team, which includes a Cloud Operations Engineer and an Application Analyst. Collaboration with the platform engineering team and other departments will be key to your success.

This position is open to candidates who may initially step in as a Technical Lead, with the opportunity to evolve into a managerial role with comprehensive support from our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Provide direct guidance to your team, driving enhancements in cloud operations and application analysis to ensure our platform remains operational and efficient.
  • Incident Management Leadership: Oversee incident management processes, orchestrating swift responses to identify, mitigate, and minimize risks effectively.
  • Conduct Post-Mortem Reviews: Lead blameless post-mortem discussions, implement actionable alerts, and drive the automation of incident management workflows to boost overall efficiency.
  • Manage Error Budgets: Establish and uphold error budgets to balance innovation, risk, and reliability, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Monitoring and Alerting Development: Create and maintain monitoring systems and alerts for both pre-production and production environments, collaborating closely with platform and application support teams to enhance reliability.
  • Automation Initiatives: Identify repetitive tasks and spearhead efforts to automate these processes through coding and scripting, allowing your team to concentrate on strategic initiatives.
  • Client Engagement: Interact directly with clients and technical leads to address and resolve technical challenges, showcasing strong client-facing abilities.

Qualifications

  • Proven Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience in leading an Engineering or SRE team, with the ability to mentor and develop team members.
  • Expertise in Incident Management: In-depth knowledge of incident management frameworks and a history of enhancing them to improve organizational response and recovery.
  • Understanding of SRE Principles: Experience in implementing SRE principles within an organization, including the adoption of SLI/SLO/SLAs to meet both technical and business requirements.
  • Cloud Technology Proficiency: Extensive experience with AWS and containerization technologies such as AWS EKS and Kubernetes, crucial for scaling and operational readiness.
  • Hands-On Leadership Style: A commitment to mentoring, combined with a proactive approach to drive company-wide impact, particularly in monitoring, automation, and incident management.
  • Strong Client-Facing Skills: Ability to engage in technical discussions with clients and technical leads, ensuring effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Relevant Industry Experience: Background in financial services or a similar regulated sector is advantageous, aiding in navigating the regulatory landscape effectively.
