Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a high standard of comprehensive care to patients, ensuring their dignity and equality are upheld at all times.
- Encourage patients to adopt health promotion strategies that foster healthy living and self-care principles.
- Conduct opportunistic health promotion during new patient assessments.
- Assist senior practitioners during minor surgical procedures.
- Perform various clinical tasks, including:
- Basic dressings
- Wound swabs
- Doppler assessments
- Influenza vaccinations
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Phlebotomy
- Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
- Chaperoning patients while ensuring their dignity is maintained.
- Process urine, stool, and sputum samples for laboratory analysis.
- Maintain cleanliness in treatment rooms and monitor supplies.
- Monthly checks of resuscitation, oxygen, and suction equipment.
- Provide basic life support and assist team members as necessary.
- Undertake any other clinical responsibilities as required by the practice when competent.
Communication Skills
- Effectively communicate within the multidisciplinary team.
- Utilize sensitive communication styles to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatments.
- Support patients receiving difficult news and communicate effectively with patients and caregivers.
- Recognize and adapt to different communication needs based on cultural backgrounds and understanding levels.
- Advocate for patients and colleagues when necessary.
Team Collaboration
- Understand and apply legal policies regarding vulnerable individuals.
- Work within guidelines related to domestic violence and substance abuse, making appropriate referrals.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to enhance patient care.
Quality Assurance
Maintain accurate and complete records of patient consultations in line with relevant legislation and policies.
Risk Management
Monitor work areas to ensure safety and compliance with health and safety regulations.
General Responsibilities
- Greet patients professionally and carry out relevant procedures.
- Prepare treatment rooms and liaise with external agencies as needed.
- Stay updated on clinical practices and protocols.
