Position: Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Offshore Energy

Overview

Our client, a dynamic and expanding engineering consultancy, is engaged in a variety of innovative projects within the Offshore Energy Sector. They offer a competitive salary along with an exceptional benefits package, including comprehensive training and development opportunities.

The successful candidate will oversee and execute projects from initial client engagement through to the final reporting phase, ensuring both technical and financial success. This role involves managing client relationships, leading a team of engineers, and collaborating closely with the Engineering Director.

You will be involved in diverse projects, including geotechnical foundation design, scour evaluations, rock berm assessments, and cable engineering, while also supervising internal project management and quality control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Engineering Director in preparing geotechnical studies, designs, and reports related to subsea structures.
  • Maintain project documentation and manage budgets and junior staff.
  • Conduct and oversee geotechnical analyses and data assessments.
  • Engage with clients and lead the preparation of geotechnical reports.
  • Stay updated on design specifications and standards.
  • Develop and uphold in-house design methodologies to ensure project consistency.
  • Support the technical and commercial management of the business.
  • Enhance technical skills in line with job requirements and personal development goals.
  • Participate in business development activities to grow the subsea structures division.
  • Ensure compliance with HSEQ standards and lead by example in quality and safety procedures.
  • Manage your professional development through conferences, publications, and training.
  • Oversee team management and support junior staff through training and performance reviews.
  • Apply academic knowledge to develop marine geotechnical expertise while mentoring less experienced team members.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related field, with further studies or practical experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology in the offshore domain.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a geotechnical engineering role within the offshore sector, with a focus on seabed infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of ground investigation, geotechnical engineering, and geological processes.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as ArcGIS, Global Mapper, and geotechnical analysis programs like PLAXIS.
  • Experience in offshore geotechnical design, including soil-structure interaction and cable burial risk assessments.
  • Proven ability to lead projects from conception to completion, managing client interactions, project planning, and team dynamics.
  • Active membership in a professional organization such as the Institution of Civil Engineers or Geological Society.
