Job Summary

The University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join their team in the Biochemistry Department. As a Senior Biomedical Scientist, you will play a key role in supervising and organizing the technical diagnostic services within the department, ensuring that current accreditation standards are adhered to.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and organize the technical diagnostic services within the Biochemistry Department.
  • Undertake routine and complex analytical techniques to maintain service provision.
  • Undertake specific designated managerial duties as required.
  • Ensure that current accreditation standards are adhered to throughout the department.
  • Work efficiently and flexibly as part of the Biochemistry laboratory team to provide a high-quality diagnostic service.
  • Maintain competence to practice and improve professional expertise through engagement in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department, especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality.
  • Participate in a shift pattern, including early, late, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts, as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • BSc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Post Graduate Qualification MSc, FIBMS or equivalent, or can demonstrate appropriate level of experience and knowledge in Biochemistry.

Desirable

  • Managerial or Leadership Qualification.
  • Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Diploma in Biochemistry or equivalent.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in a Biochemistry Medical Laboratory.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize workload, and work to deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, face-to-face, by phone, and in writing with all levels of staff.

Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Able to work individually and as part of a team, with the ability to plan, supervise, and organize basic grade, trainee BMS, and support grade staff in their day-to-day work.
  • Able to utilize initiative to solve problems and develop the service.
  • Prepared to work flexibly, including participation in a shift pattern, which includes early, late, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts, and other out-of-hours rotas as required.
  • Ability and willingness to fulfill the travel requirements of the post, if relevant.
