Our Planning team is expanding due to new projects and instructions. We are looking for commercially astute candidates with the technical skills necessary to manage key projects at a senior level.

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Planning Project Leader, you will:

  • Lead planning projects, ensuring effective coordination and oversight.
  • Act as a company ambassador, driving business development by nurturing existing client relationships and pursuing new opportunities.
  • Support the Regional Director in managing team operations and developing core competencies.
  • Engage in the professional development of team members through coaching and mentoring.
  • Oversee the performance management and well-being of junior staff.
  • Contribute to team objectives and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Foster collaboration and innovation to achieve excellence.
  • Manage client expectations and ensure their needs are met or exceeded.
  • Provide technical insights for projects and bids, identifying new client opportunities.
  • Negotiate major contracts and manage legal aspects.
  • Develop business opportunities independently, demonstrating sound judgment in targeting strategic projects.
  • Make tactical decisions that align with the overall business strategy.
  • Oversee the delivery of specialized project components and manage complex planning submissions.
  • Conduct strategic planning research and policy development.
  • Guide engineers and architects in preparing planning submissions.
  • Maintain professional development in line with RTPI requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • RTPI accredited degree or Master's in a relevant field.
  • Chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
  • Significant experience in the planning industry, including private sector exposure and team leadership.
Essential Skills & Abilities
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong client management capabilities and the ability to present at senior levels.
  • Expert negotiation skills with a solid understanding of commercial practices.
  • Proficient project management skills with a focus on timeliness and accuracy.
  • Strong report writing abilities and the capacity to provide constructive feedback.
  • In-depth knowledge of planning legislation across England and Wales.
  • A natural aptitude for explaining planning issues to diverse audiences.
