Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Anaesthetic Consultant to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Department of Anaesthesia, you will be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic services to patients undergoing general, major, and high-risk surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff and contribute to the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of the department's business plan.
  • Take an active role in the delivery of emergency anaesthesia and participate in the general consultant on-call rota.
  • Be aware of and comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies.
  • Be accountable for the implementation of the Code of Practice within your department/area of responsibility.
  • Additional qualifications/diplomas in specialist areas, such as Perioperative Medicine, Trauma Sciences, or Regional Anaesthesia.
Requirements
  • Full Registration with the GMC and completion of a subspecialty training program in anaesthesia.
  • Eligibility to apply for a Substantive Consultant post – CCT or within 6 months of completion.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Wide experience in delivering anaesthesia for general, major, and high-risk surgery, as well as trauma and cepod surgery.
  • Award of CCT or equivalent.
  • Major trauma management experience.
  • Experience in high-risk obstetrics.
  • Pre-assessment and perioperative medicine experience.
  • Additional training/fellowship in a specialist area.
Administration and Management
  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of anaesthetic services in a busy teaching hospital.
  • Familiarity with the current structure of the Health Service and conversance with recent initiatives and changes.
Leadership and Audit
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Management course and/or qualification.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit and experience in undertaking and completing audit projects and QIPs.
Research and Publications
  • Experience of clinical research.
  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of anaesthesia.
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
Teaching and Education
  • Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Experience of teaching PROMPT.
