Healthcare Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our multidisciplinary team at Livewell Southwest. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals with mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist registered nurses in delivering physical, social, and psychological care to patients with mental health problems.
- Work within a team to support and assist qualified staff in implementing patient care plans.
- Undertake a range of competencies, including service-specific training, and record observations and information accurately.
- Use clinical decision-making tools to inform care and highlight significant results to senior staff.
- Perform simple wound care, blood sugar monitoring, venepuncture, temperature, blood pressures, pulse oximetry, and other clinical responsibilities as delegated by registered nursing staff.
- Provide self-directed, individual activities for specified patients in all healthcare settings, working within risk management guidelines.
- Identify and report safeguarding risks for patients or carers and know the process to follow.
- Participate in the unit-wide response team and be fully trained in Physical Intervention.
- Carry out tasks and instructions assigned by registered nurses and undertake only those tasks for which you have had instruction and are competent to fulfill.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior staff or students.
- Engage with audits, quality improvement projects, and service changes as directed by the ward manager.
- Provide a high standard of care under the direction and supervision of more senior staff.
- Assist the multi-disciplinary team in delivering and evaluating patient care.
- Liaise across inpatient and community colleagues in statutory and non-statutory services as appropriate.
- NVQ level 3, QCF level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
- Care certificate.
- Other evidence of training or development relevant to working within mental health settings.
- Ability to participate in activities with patients.
- Ability to contribute to the process of and the delivery of high standards of care as planned in care programs.
- Vocational Qualification Level II or able to demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and ability to work to that level.
- Other evidence of training or development relevant to working within mental health settings.
- Knowledge of mental health, therapeutic approaches, and application to people with learning disabilities/mental health problems.
- Awareness of safeguarding principles.
- Basic IT skills.
- A basic understanding of physical health presentation.
- Good communication and listening skills.
