The School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Glaciology.
We are looking for a candidate to enhance our vibrant team at the Bristol Glaciology Centre, adding to our established expertise in ice sheet and mountain glacier modeling, remote sensing, microbiology, biogeochemistry, and glacier hydrology.
The successful candidate will have access to the University of Bristol's outstanding laboratory facilities for low-temperature sample analysis, as well as supercomputing resources, including the UK's most advanced supercomputer, Isambard-AI, and exceptional research support.
The collaborative environment within the Bristol Glaciology Centre fosters professional growth through research opportunities and assistance in developing your teaching portfolio.
To support this, we maintain strong collaborations across the School of Geographical Sciences, the Science and Engineering faculty at Bristol, and interdisciplinary research units such as the Cabot Institute for the Environment and the Jean Golding Institute for data sciences.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe role of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Glaciology is a permanent Pathway 1 position, involving research, education, and administrative duties.
This entails that the role holder will be encouraged to cultivate their research agenda, including actively pursuing funding opportunities and disseminating their research outcomes.
Additionally, they will contribute to teaching across both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as supervise doctoral candidates, and will assist with the School's operations through administrative tasks as assigned by the Head of School.
Candidate ProfileWe invite applications from outstanding individuals in all areas of cryospheric sciences, particularly those with expertise in field observations in cold climates and those from underrepresented backgrounds in glaciology.
We especially welcome candidates with deep knowledge in physical glaciology, including the geophysics of ice, glacial dynamics, and interactions between ice, climate, and ocean systems.
