This role comes with a clear pathway for career advancement, potentially leading to a Directorship based on qualifications and experience.

About the Company

Wood Goldstraw Yorath stands as the premier and longest-established Architectural Practice in North Staffordshire, having been founded in 1874. Our firm operates on a national scale and is certified to ISO 9001 standards. We engage in a diverse range of sectors, including residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, and ecclesiastical projects. As a multi-disciplinary firm, our core services encompass Architecture, Quantity Surveying, CDM Consultancy, and Project Management. This full-time position is integral to our Architectural team, primarily focusing on feasibility studies and design development (covering RIBA work stages 0-3). The successful candidate will also provide oversight and collaboration as projects transition to our technical design teams, ensuring a smooth design progression and execution (through RIBA work stages 4-7). Additionally, Architects with a background in conservation and relevant accreditation are encouraged to apply, as they will have the opportunity to lead and expand our Heritage & Conservation division. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with the majority of tasks performed in our offices while allowing for remote work flexibility.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be registered with the ARB.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contemporary design with innovative thinking.
  • Design approach should prioritize sustainability and energy efficiency.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • In-depth knowledge of current planning regulations.
  • Understanding of construction costs and ability to design within budget constraints.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in BIM software (ArchiCAD experience preferred, training available).
  • Skilled in standard software applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, NBS, etc.).
  • Willingness to mentor junior professionals within the Practice.
  • Membership in RIBA is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Relevant conservation accreditation (e.g., AABC or similar) is a plus but not required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in similar roles.

Compensation

The starting salary for this position is competitive, beginning at £40,000, with the potential for a remuneration package that reflects the candidate's qualifications and experience.
