Facilities Maintenance Specialist

This role is a full-time, permanent opportunity, offering a competitive salary ranging from £23,014 to £30,923 per annum, depending on experience.

As a prominent educational institution, we serve approximately 2,800 sixth form students annually, situated in the picturesque New Forest National Park, providing a diverse array of courses and excellent facilities.

Role Overview:

In the capacity of Facilities Maintenance Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the maintenance and security of the college's buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safeguarding the premises and its contents while promoting security awareness, especially during non-operational hours
  • Performing painting and decorating tasks across the campus
  • Managing the heating and hot water systems (if applicable)
  • Conducting routine maintenance on heating boilers, water pumps, and sump pumps
  • Regularly inspecting electrical fittings and documenting any issues
  • Recording and reporting all meter readings as advised
  • Addressing emergencies such as leaks, flooding, and blockages as needed
  • Coordinating with emergency services when necessary
  • Undertaking various maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: general repairs (door handles, fire door closures), joinery (furniture repairs), plumbing (tap washers), minor painting, porterage, minibus checks, PAT testing, and keeping the Estates helpdesk updated

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • A solid educational background
  • Relevant experience in general maintenance and repair work, particularly in painting, carpentry, plumbing, and basic electrical tasks
  • Proficiency with small hand tools
  • A strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations
  • A valid driving license
  • A DBS check will be required
  • Flexibility to work on an alternating shift pattern
  • Willingness to travel to different college locations as necessary
