Job Title: Patient Catering Host

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Patient Catering Host at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. As a Patient Catering Host, you will play a vital role in providing an efficient food and beverage service to patients on wards, ensuring that food and beverages meet patients' medical, dietary, and cultural needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the service areas with the necessary equipment, such as crockery, and condiments.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene and food handling, ensuring all food served to patients is easily accessible.
  • Provide a high-quality food and beverage service, ensuring correct storage, labeling, and rotation of chilled produce, and relevant temperature monitoring.
  • Maintain a pleasant customer-focused manner at all times.
Person Specification:
  • Ability to follow instructions and develop rapport with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and move from one task to another rapidly when priorities change.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure or challenging situations.
  • Basic computer skills and excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated to work under minimal supervision and able to undertake the frequent physical duties of the role.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Previous experience of working in a customer-facing role and knowledge of good health and safety practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of different cultural needs and working to deadlines with urgency.
  • Knowledge of food safety protocols and proven ability working in a team environment.
Education and Qualifications:
  • No formal education is required, as on-the-job instruction, training, and theoretical knowledge are provided.
  • Ability to retain information and learning is essential, together with excellent communication skills (oral and written).
