Job Overview

We are seeking a seasoned professional to lead our Democratic Services and Scrutiny Team as a Democratic Services and Governance Manager. This role is open to both permanent and contract candidates.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert technical advice to officers and members, and will possess a solid understanding of local government and the decision-making process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a welcoming and diverse Democratic Services and Scrutiny Team, embracing change-makers and problem-solvers.
  • Provide clear leadership and direction to the team, with a clear vision of what excellence in democratic services looks like.
  • Offer expert technical advice to officers and members, and produce clear, concise reports on complex issues.
  • Build relationships with senior officers and members from diverse backgrounds, and demonstrate exceptional communication skills.
  • Exhibit strong management skills, with the capacity to provide clear leadership and direction to the team.

Requirements:

  • Possess a proven track record and extensive experience as the primary contact for democratic services within a local authority.
  • Have a solid understanding of local government and the decision-making process.

  • Exhibit strong management skills, with the capacity to provide clear leadership and direction to the team.
