Senior Data Scientist Job Description

At South West Water, we're committed to delivering reliable, efficient, and high-quality drinking water and wastewater services to the beautiful South West area. We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Water Resources team in Exeter or Bristol on a full-time permanent basis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of robust data processes to gather, cleanse, transform, and store key data for the Water Resources Function.
  • Manage and assure the generation and maintenance of a robust source of historical, current, and forecast data for the whole function.
  • Supervise the team to collect and maintain data, both static and dynamic, across all activities relevant to the Water Resources Function.
  • Develop and implement innovative data processing and analysis techniques, including machine learning, to deliver efficient, on-demand data sets.
  • Produce clear and concise insights for stakeholders suitable for performance reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Deliver a bespoke data service and actively build collaborations with other teams in Water Resources to deliver a dynamic support service across the department.
Requirements:
  • Professional experience in data science, with a proven track record of leading complex data projects and managing tasks to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and SQL, along with experience in data tools, platforms, and manipulating large datasets for analysis and interpretation.
  • In-depth knowledge of statistical methods, experimental design, and data visualisation tools like PowerBI.
  • Degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics, environmental sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including expertise in statistical methods and data manipulation.
