About the Role

Vanrath is excited to be recruiting for a Band 7 Quality and Governance Officer on behalf of a leading public sector organization in a temporary capacity.

  • Full-time position, Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm
  • Temporary assignment
  • Band 7 salary, £41,659

About the Employer

The post holder will be a specialist in quality and governance, working closely with laboratory managers, quality managers, and clinical leads to ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation standards and patient and staff safety in the laboratory service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with laboratory managers, quality managers, and clinical leads to ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation standards and patient and staff safety in the laboratory service.
  • Assist the department in maintaining UKAS accreditation and promote a quality laboratory service to clinicians.
  • Develop and implement a regular audit program against ISO 15189:2022 standards, identifying and addressing risks and implementing effective actions.
  • Monitor and update documents in accordance with agreed timescales, ensuring compliance with quality management systems.
  • Provide advice and guidance on analytical problems and clinical incidents, recording and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain the risk register and risk management systems for the Cellular and Molecular Pathology Laboratory.
  • Participate in laboratory quality meetings, decision-making, and policy implementation.
  • Liaise with senior laboratory managers on service complaints and incidents, ensuring effective actions are taken.
  • Monitor QA requirements, ensure internal and external quality control methods are operative, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Organize participation in external and internal quality assurance and monitoring performance, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Provide information on quality for departmental management quality reviews.
  • Deliver training on quality management systems and principles to departmental staff.
  • Deputize for the Quality Manager as required.
  • Participate in 24/7 rotas upon satisfactory attainment of key competencies, with a period of 3 months to 2 years depending on experience and familiarity with equipment and protocols.
  • Develop own expertise and knowledge in Cellular and Molecular Pathology to promote staff motivation, attending conferences, discussion groups, CPD, and quality-related qualifications.
  • Learn and understand complex laboratory processes, pathways, and gain knowledge of all equipment, including digital pathology systems.
  • Inform the Head BMS of trends, anomalies, and poor performance.
  • Perform day-to-day management responsibilities to ensure service delivery, keeping the Head BMS aware of proposed changes or significant issues in relation to quality management.
  • Assist the Head BMS in forward planning, participating in the assessment and implementation of new methods and equipment, and research projects.

About You

A degree or equivalent in Science or other discipline with a fundamental element of quality, and 3 years of relevant experience in a management Band 6 role within finance, quality, governance, or a laboratory setting. Additionally, 2 years of practical experience using Microsoft Office suite of programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
