Role Overview:

Hiscox is in search of a seasoned Solutions Architect to become a part of Hiscox Re & ILS, a division dedicated to reinsurance and third-party capital management services. The ideal candidate will possess a robust sense of ownership, initiative, and pride in their contributions. They will leverage their experience across various change initiatives, offering architectural guidance to project delivery and creating architecture outputs that align with the scale and nature of the changes. Collaboration with a broader network of solution, domain, and enterprise architects within the Hiscox group will be essential to advance the overarching IT strategy and drive commercial benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume complete responsibility for the design and implementation of contemporary solutions that are secure, scalable, efficient, resilient, compliant, cost-effective, and commercially viable. Solutions must address immediate stakeholder needs while aligning with broader strategies, standards, and principles.
  • Engage with, support, and empower Agile delivery teams throughout the entire lifecycle of a change initiative, from requirements gathering to business-as-usual operations.
  • Produce architecture deliverables (High-Level Designs/Medium-Level Designs, diagrammatic artifacts) that are appropriate for the specific change using standardized templates and approved tools. While expertise in all architectural areas is not required, the candidate must take responsibility for gathering, compiling, and documenting necessary information.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Architect to enhance the architecture practice, aiding in the integration of architectural principles, standards, and strategies into Agile team planning and execution.
  • Work closely with business domain experts and product owners to comprehend problem statements and identify value realization opportunities, often in partnership with business analysts.
  • Engage with a diverse range of colleagues, from technical experts to senior business personnel across the organization. The ability to understand stakeholder interests and adjust engagement style, approach, and terminology is crucial.
  • Work collaboratively with vendors to assess their suitability and the appropriateness of their products, including active participation in reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

Skills/Experience:

  • Proven, in-depth knowledge of solution architecture, its various phases/layers, and the significance of architectural processes.
  • Experience in designing on-premise, cloud, and hybrid solutions, with a strong preference for Windows and Azure PaaS experience; knowledge of containerization is a plus.
  • Experience in producing architecture deliverables and artifacts is essential.
  • Ability to conceptualize and logically model data, clearly representing complex ideas visually.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Software Delivery Lifecycles and DevOps practices is preferred.
  • Understanding of TOGAF, Zachman, Kotusev, or similar Enterprise Architecture frameworks is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum) is necessary, with SAFe knowledge being beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with Confluence, Teams, LucidChart, and Jira is preferred.
  • Experience in team leadership and mentoring is a plus but not mandatory.
