Research Associate in AI-Assisted Materials Discovery

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team in the Condensed Matter Physics Group at The University of Manchester. The successful candidate will work on a range of projects related to using machine learning to search for new van der Waals materials and their synthesis routes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in condensed matter physics, AI, or a related field, with significant experience in machine learning and programming. They will also have a sound understanding of two-dimensional materials and their properties, as well as excellent communication skills.

The projects will focus on searching for novel van der Waals materials with desired properties, based on the calculated electronic band structures of 2D materials available in various databases and literature. The candidate will also explore synthesis pathways based on search and understanding of scientific data using AI.

The successful candidate will be expected to hold or be about to obtain a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field. They will also be required to submit a single file containing their CV, highlighting research-related expertise and skills, list of publications, and research statement (max 3 pages).
