About the Role

We are seeking a qualified Dispenser to join our team at Primary Care Careers. As a Dispenser, you will play a vital role in our busy practice, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide excellent patient care.

Main Responsibilities

  • Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses, adhering to the principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme.
  • Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription, and whenever there is doubt, consult with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
  • Collect all due prescription charges and verify that the patient declaration on the FP10 is completed and signed by the patient.
  • Process Hospital Letters and Dossett Boxes.
  • Manage stock ordering and control.
  • Respond to dispensary phone enquiries and monitor patients' exemption status.
  • Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication.
  • Perform other duties to support the smooth operation of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the dispensary manager or practice manager.

About Us

We are a semi-rural practice with 8200 patients, dispensing to 2000 of them. We are a small, friendly team working for our community in a busy practice, aiming to provide excellent service to our patients. Benefits include the NHS pension.

Person Specification

  • Diploma Level 2/3 Dispensary or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification.
  • 2 years+ (or equivalent) dispensary and pharmacy experience.
  • Excellent clinical and medication knowledge.
  • Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in a GP practice setting.
  • The commitment to continue learning new clinical skills and developing your career.
  • The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary practice team and use your own initiative in decision-making.
  • The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach.
  • Excellent patient-facing interpersonal communication skills.
