Position Overview

Are you a dedicated and skilled sonographer eager to contribute to a patient-centered environment? University Hospitals Dorset is seeking a motivated sonographer to join our ultrasound division.

Our ultrasound services are distributed across multiple facilities, where we conduct a wide range of ultrasound assessments, including general medical, obstetrics, gynecology, vascular, pediatrics, and musculoskeletal examinations.

We also participate in the Early Pregnancy clinic and various integrated clinics, providing a comprehensive ultrasound service throughout the week.

As part of our supportive and collaborative team, you will be responsible for independently executing and interpreting ultrasound examinations while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

Main Responsibilities

The Radiology department actively promotes continuous professional development, encouraging participation in both internal and external educational initiatives. Within the ultrasound team, we emphasize regular audits and support the training of student sonographers and those pursuing advanced qualifications.

We prioritize staff well-being by providing ergonomic equipment and designing ultrasound schedules that promote safe practices.

Our commitment to excellence has led to recommendations for QSI accreditation.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, showcasing high levels of competency.

Qualifications

Essential criteria include a Diploma from the College of Radiographers or a BSc in Radiography, HCPC Registration, and a postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound.

Experience

Essential criteria encompass postgraduate experience in ultrasound, the ability to work independently across various ultrasound areas, and evidence of ongoing professional development. Recent experience within the NHS is also required.

Desirable criteria

Experience in supervising, teaching, and mentoring staff at all levels, as well as proficiency in specialized areas such as MSK, ATP Biopsy, Vascular, and Pediatric ultrasound.

Technical Skills

Essential criteria include being an autonomous practitioner, possessing strong time management and prioritization skills, and the ability to analyze and interpret complex information to produce accurate clinical reports. A compassionate attitude towards patient care and effective teamwork skills are crucial.
