Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals Full time

Position Overview

Are you a skilled Midwife dedicated to the art of labour induction?

Join our team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and contribute to enhancing the quality of care for women and newborns who utilize our maternity services.

We have initiated a quality enhancement project aimed at elevating the standards and safety of care for women undergoing the induction of labour process. This initiative includes the formation of a dedicated Induction of Labour Team situated on the antenatal ward. We are seeking passionate midwives who are committed to delivering exceptional induction of labour care to become part of this innovative team.

Ideal candidates will possess a comprehensive understanding of the evidence surrounding induction of labour, alongside outstanding communication and intrapartum skills.

Applicants must be willing to work unsocial hours, including nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess referrals and ensure prompt scheduling for induction of labour as the midwifery lead within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Oversee the Induction of Labour area, managing daily operations with a focus on minimizing delays and maximizing capacity while ensuring a secure environment for women and their families. This role includes developing and conveying plans for induction of labour to women and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain effective communication with broader multidisciplinary teams to guarantee high-quality, individualized care for all women, including those who opt out of induction, decline the procedure, or make alternative birth choices. This care will honor women's autonomy, privacy, and dignity.

Working with Us

At Oxfordshire, we provide a distinctive maternity service setup, where numerous births occur annually. Our facilities include standalone Midwifery Led Birth units across the region, as well as home birth options available to all areas. Additionally, we feature an integrated birth unit where a significant percentage of birthing individuals choose to labor.

As a prominent Tertiary hospital, we offer a comprehensive Delivery Suite equipped with en-suite birthing pool rooms, maternity theatres, and a dedicated Maternity Recovery Ward. Specialized services such as the Fetal and Maternal Medicine Team and Bereavement Team are also available.

For our staff, we provide access to a designated Maternity Psychologist several days a week, alongside Professional Midwifery Advocates. For those looking to advance their careers and skills, our core Practice Development Team is available to assist with career guidance and development opportunities. We are committed to ensuring that every team member feels valued and empowered to express their thoughts and concerns.

We firmly believe that by supporting our staff to feel fulfilled and well-supported in their work environment, we can deliver the highest quality of care to the birthing individuals who rely on our services.
