Job Title: Gastroenterology Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gastroenterology Consultant to join our team at St. Mary's Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality gastroenterology services, including endoscopy, to patients in our district general hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services, including endoscopy, to patients in our district general hospital.
  2. Participate in the ongoing development of the gastroenterology service, in line with national and NICE frameworks.
  3. Supervise and manage junior medical staff, ensuring adherence to local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
  4. Contribute to teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, as well as continuing medical education activities.
  5. Engage in medical audit and other clinical effectiveness activities, fostering improvements in quality and standards.
  6. Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorized absences.
  7. Comply with Trust policies and procedures, including those related to equal opportunities, health and safety, and data protection.
The Gastroenterology Service:

The Gastroenterology Service at St. Mary's Hospital provides general and sub-specialty outpatient and inpatient care for gastroenterology and hepatology, including suspected cancers. We offer diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies, as well as an in-hours bleed service.

This is an exciting time to join our team, with plans to develop services utilizing the advantages of being a small district general hospital and the uniqueness of being part of an integrated Trust.

Job Plan:

The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out the Consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of the Consultant's professional practice, including clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities.

The job plan will include 10-programmed activities (PAs) per week, with a mix of direct clinical care, supporting professional activities, and other responsibilities.
