Consultant Gastroenterologist Locum Position

This is a full-time position, but we encourage candidates who wish to work part-time or in a job-share arrangement to apply. If a part-time or job-share individual is appointed, we will discuss modifications to the job plan on a personal basis.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a high-quality comprehensive district general hospital gastroenterology service, including endoscopy, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the service.
- Supervise and manage junior medical staff, adhering to local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
- Carry out teaching, examination, and accreditation duties as required, and contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity, both locally and nationally.
- Engage in medical audit and other clinical effectiveness activities, particularly the Trust's Clinical Governance processes, to foster improvements in quality and standards.
- Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
- At all times, carry out duties with due regard to the Trust's Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Comply with Trust Health and Safety policies and maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Have a knowledge of and employ the basic principles of infection control practice, ensuring adherence to the requirements in the Infection Control Manual.
- In line with GMC Good Medical Practice, ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.
- Respect confidentiality and comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, in line with the Trust's policies.
- Comply with Trust policies and procedures.
- Participate in the 1 in 11 Consultant general medical emergency on-call rota, including cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
The Gastroenterology Service provides general and sub-specialty outpatient and inpatient care for gastroenterology and hepatology, including suspected cancers, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies and an in-hours bleed service.
