This full-time role (10 PA) focuses on providing acute liaison psychiatric services for older adults within the wards of the Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the associated Larkfield Unit, which specializes in Geriatric Medicine. The position also includes consultant oversight for care homes in the Inverclyde area, supported by a dedicated team of three liaison nurses. Additionally, the role encompasses two sessions of consultant involvement in Willow Ward, a modern 30-bed organic Hospital Complex Care Ward, part of the Orchard Unit located on the Inverclyde Hospital grounds.

In total, the Inverclyde area is served by three full-time Old Age Psychiatrists, collaborating with six other psychiatrists from Renfrewshire for case discussions and local management meetings. Inpatient care is provided at Ward 4, Larkfield Unit, which is part of the Inverclyde Royal Hospital, while continuing care beds are located at the Orchard View Unit on the same grounds. The other two consultants primarily cover community services, excluding care homes and acute inpatients. The Community Mental Health Team operates as an integrated unit, incorporating Mental Health Officers and social workers within the team, based at both Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Crown House in Greenock.

Applicants must possess full GMC Registration, a license to practice, and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should provide evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within six months of confirmed entry from the date of the interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training qualifications.

This position is offered as a full-time role on a 10 PA basis, though applications from candidates seeking part-time opportunities will be considered. Up to two additional PAs may be available for outpatient sessions, procedural work, or management activities.

Additional Non-DCC (up to 2 PAs in total – inclusive of 1 core SPA plus 1 additional non-DCC) can be negotiated based on the successful candidate's professional activities and service needs.

All newly appointed consultants are guaranteed a minimum of one Core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA), which encompasses CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning, and management meetings. This arrangement will be reviewed within six months of appointment and may be adjusted if additional responsibilities are agreed upon.
