Technical Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager to join our team at Vistry Thames Valley, based in Reading. As a Technical Manager, you will play a key role in the design development process, working closely with our team to deliver high-quality projects from inception to completion.

Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the wider strategy of the department and business unit, advising on industry changes and identifying risks and opportunities. You will also be responsible for managing technical fees and services costs, as well as coordinating delivery of surveys and reports required for development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking the Principal Designer role as defined within the Construction Design & Management Regulation 2015 and completion of all necessary Health, Safety & Environmental documents, in line with Group Policy & procedures.
  • Coordinating delivery of surveys & reports required for the development and managing associated requirements from design to completion.
  • Coordinating consultants to deliver the civil engineering designs, including legal plans and house type working drawing packs.
  • Obtaining and collating all ancillary specialist drawings, including hot water supply, heating, kitchen, stair, lintels, p.c. ground floors, and precast upper floors.
  • Coordinating submission of designs and securing technical approvals for agreements such as S104, S38 & S278, followed by timely completion of legal agreements.
  • Coordinating utility designs and initial mains laying onto site, ensuring legal agreements completed in a timely manner.

  • Hold a BTEC HND/HNC in Design, Construction or Civil Engineering.
  • Have at least 5 years' experience working within a technical role at a residential house builder.
  • Have a good level of IT literacy with experience of AutoCAD, Revit, Outlook, Excel & Word.
  • Have proven ability in a Technical Manager role of assessing technical aspects for land opportunities and delivering design for projects on time, to budget and quality standards with high customer satisfaction results.
  • Have excellent organisation and time management with ability to multitask.
  • Hold Principal Designer and associated Health and Safety training/qualifications.
  • Hold a CSCS card qualification.
  • Be proficient in the use of Viewpoint drawing management system.
  • Have experience in managing and developing people.
  • Have understanding of wider Business demands and strategy.
