Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Operations Specialist to join our team at Reed. As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Transactions: Take ownership of all aspects of Purchase Ledger transactions using Merlin software, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Supplier Management: Manage the setup of new suppliers and the posting of supplier invoices, maintaining strong relationships with the purchasing team.
  • Payment Processing: Handle the raising and making of supplier payments through BACS, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Expense Management: Conduct posting and reconciliation of staff expenses, maintaining financial control and compliance.
  • VAT and Reconciliation: Perform VAT reconciliation and quarterly submissions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations.
  • Bank and Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Execute bank and balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including interpreting, challenging, and analyzing variances.
  • Accruals and Prepayments: Post accruals and prepayment journals, and close monthly and yearly nominal ledgers, ensuring accurate financial records.
  • Annual Budgeting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend operational improvements and deliver accurate month-end reporting across 4 legal entities, promoting best practices and process efficiencies.
  • Financial Control: Maintain financial control, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, and promoting a culture of financial excellence.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Experience in a similar Assistant Accountant role, with a strong understanding of financial operations and processes.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience using Merlin or similar financial applications.
  • Qualifications: AAT or equivalent qualification, or qualified by experience, with a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.
