About the Role

The successful candidate will advise and influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership, to deliver ways to reduce utility consumption across Electricity, Gas, and Water usage. They will ensure alignment with the broader Net Zero Strategy and drive innovation into the capital pipeline through tested technology. They will also support FGAS and Heat Decarbonisation strategy through trials, legislation review, and business updates. Investigate and interrogate drivers of energy consumption, and lead on forward reduction plans.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leading the utility reduction roadmap for the group
  • Support with papers to inform business of the change and why, with associated costs, paybacks, and ROIs
  • Provide regular tracking and saving validation to the business, to measure performance against the energy budget/projects plan
  • Ensure projects and change have a positive influence on our customers, validated by data, roundtables, and insight
  • Lead and develop new ways to save energy which lead to roll-out programmes across our colleague operations
  • Arrange listening to ensure the change we are creating in new stores is what our colleagues want and need and can tell our customers about
  • Utilise strong engagement channels to bring all colleagues on the energy reduction journey
  • Ensure investment is included in wider Property Capital budget to ensure delivery vehicles such as Fresh Look and Maintenance Asset plan are aligned to Energy goals
  • Influence strategy to achieve net zero ambition of 2035
  • Ensure compliance with carbon and energy legislation
  • Provide validation of new project to improve returns and ensure business case delivery
  • Maximise value from the Maintenance and Services teams, through operational improvement, new ideas from the ground, specification control, and cost reductions in build or PPMS
  • Deliver accurate and informed analysis to support decision making and insight
  • Manage external contractors and consultants (bureau services and project managers) to optimise HVAC and Refrigeration Remote Monitoring services
  • Lead regular problem-solving activities to reduce risk and consumption
  • Deliver the right investment to reach net zero at the right commercial commitment
  • Contribute to meeting the department's annual budget to ensure expenditure is in line with known agreements and plans
  • Present opportunities to improve service, drive value, and reduce costs/grow sales

  • Strong and up-to-date market knowledge/insight of new legislation, technology, and rates in relation to energy
  • Expert knowledge in net zero strategy, in particular scope 1 and 2 emissions
  • Solid commercial and financial understanding
  • Sound data analysis and energy monitoring skills across multi-site portfolio
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, to educate and influence all levels of the organisation
  • Curious to learn about new technology
  • The ability to translate business strategy
  • Resilience and a positive attitude will be important qualities through this exciting journey
  • Operational energy management experience across multiple locations in large multi-site organisations for a minimum of 3 years
  • Managing external contractors and consultants
  • Engage with people at all levels, demonstrating problem-solving & analytical skills and the ability to take initiative, identify priorities, and implement actions quickly
