Production Test Engineer for Aerospace Applications

Inspired Recruitment is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Test Engineer to join our team, focusing on aerospace projects related to fuel testing systems. This role requires onsite presence for four days a week.

The successful candidate will provide specialized knowledge and project management skills to enhance the installation and validation processes for new oil and fuel flow test rigs within the Assembly and Testing area for Heat Exchangers. The position emphasizes manufacturing reliability, maintainability, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of production and process engineering principles.

2. Supervise the design and management of specialized tooling for manufacturing processes, ensuring control over existing and new tooling documentation.

3. Identify and implement process enhancements within the designated area and across the factory as necessary (HSE, CI, NPI).

4. Possess a solid understanding of instrumentation, calibration, and data logging techniques.

5. Demonstrate experience in constructing and operating production acceptance test rigs, including oil and fuel flow, fuel flushing, and hydraulic proof pressure systems.

6. Exhibit knowledge in test rig/machine programming, particularly with LabVIEW.

7. Collaborate with the Project Engineering team to develop procedures for Development, Certification, and Production Acceptance Testing.

8. Employ modern manufacturing methodologies such as value stream mapping, continuous improvement, 5S, root cause analysis, and lean manufacturing, alongside the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to enhance machinery process capabilities.

9. Create and update Assembly Procedures and standard work instructions to support manufacturing operations.

  • Provide technical assistance to Engineering, Quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve production issues with minimal disruption.

11. Identify cost-effective manufacturing methods to reduce expenses through capital investment and process development, both internally and with suppliers.

12. Enhance manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflows, spatial requirements, and equipment arrangements.

13. Develop manufacturing processes by examining product specifications; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing techniques and equipment; and consulting with equipment suppliers.

14. Deliver manufacturing decision-making insights through Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production timelines; and forecasting future needs.

15. Maintain equipment functionality by coordinating maintenance and repair services, adhering to manufacturer guidelines and established protocols.

16. Establish standard costings and conduct work measurements to determine process durations.

17. Utilize the company’s business system to create and manage product routings for both new and existing components.

18. Engage in New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives to advocate for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, agree on manufacturing techniques for hardware, and develop innovative manufacturing methods as required.

19. Generate CAM CNC programs from 3D models for processing on multi-axis machines, ensuring all jigs, fixtures, and tooling needs are met, and manage the transition from prove-out to full production.

20. Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD for modeling and drafting is preferred.
