Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Safety and Compliance Manager to join our team in Sydney. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of safety management and regulatory compliance within our operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety protocols, risk management, and legal compliance across our transport and logistics services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Management:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures.
    • Manage incident reporting, investigation, and follow-up procedures to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
    • Facilitate safety training and education programs for all staff, including emergency preparedness, hazard communication, and injury prevention.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards in line with relevant regulations.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Keep updated records of all certifications, permits, licenses, and training required by law.
    • Liaise with regulatory authorities during inspections, audits, and investigations.
    • Manage documentation related to compliance requirements (such as audits, investigations, and certifications).
    • Ensure compliance programs are robust and meet all legislative and customer requirements.
  • Work within a continuous improvement and risk management framework, identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards on an ongoing basis.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, People & Culture, to integrate safety and compliance best practices.
    • Act as a point of contact for regulatory bodies, insurers, and safety consultants.
    • Build strong relationships with staff and supply chain partners to foster an open dialogue on safety and compliance consultation.
  • Reporting & Analysis:
    • Provide regular safety performance reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics, trends, and recommendations for improvement.
    • Analyse incident data and generate reports to identify hazards, trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
    • Maintain safety-related records, including compliance documentation, incident reports, and safety audits.

Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Workplace Health and Safety or equivalent industry experience.
    • Relevant safety and compliance training and certifications.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety and compliance role, preferably within the transport and logistics industry.
    • Proven track record in implementing safety management systems and regulatory compliance frameworks.
    • Experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
    • Knowledge of relevant transport and safety regulations, such as the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and fatigue management.
