Project Lead - Action for Freelancers

About the Role:

Action for Freelancers (AfF) is a collaborative initiative aimed at supporting freelancers in the UK television industry. As the Project Lead, you will play a crucial role in driving this pan-industry collaboration forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the central project management, ensuring regular meetings with industry stakeholders and workstream leaders, as well as clear and consistent communication among the membership.
  2. Drive the workstreams covering key areas such as Working Conditions, Recruitment, Skills & Training, Mental Health & Wellbeing, and Communication.
  3. Convene groups of experts to ensure a true, pan-industry collaboration, setting objectives & outputs, and keeping pace to deliver milestones.
  4. Lead the implementation of an updated Freelance Charter, revising and relaunching the existing charter.
  5. Collaborate with ScreenSkills to develop The Freelancer Hub, bringing together relevant resources, support services, and initiatives in one place.
  6. Work with the British Screen Forum to explore initiating a review of how other countries approach the legal engagement status of their creative freelancers.
  7. Manage AfF membership, identifying future participants, and managing relationships with members and partners.
  8. Oversee funding and payments processes, ensuring smooth engagement from contributing parties, freelancer, and supplier payments.

Requirements:

  1. Experienced TV freelancer with a strong understanding of the UK Broadcast TV freelancing community and ways of working in the independent sector.
  2. In-depth knowledge of freelancer issues within media production, specifically TV.
  3. Strong contacts and networks within the field of TV production, with evidence of being able to develop such networks.
  4. Excellent organisation, time management, and networking skills.
  5. Experience working on complex projects involving deadline management, multiple stakeholders, and task prioritisation.
  6. Awareness of Competition Law, with the ability to ensure appropriate management of meetings and engagement between members.
  7. Experience researching, organising, and summarising complex data, with a proven ability to convert data into effective messaging and reporting.
  8. Evidence of championing work in diversity, equity, and inclusion, mental health, and wellbeing.

Practicalities:

  1. This role will be an initial 1 year contract for 4 days/week, with flexible working arrangements, job share, and hybrid working considered.
  2. 4 day per week salary - £73-83k per annum, with a full-time equivalent salary of £85-95k.
  3. The successful candidate will be engaged on a contract/consultant basis with the Film and TV Charity.
  4. The role will be hybrid, with some remote working, and the office based at the Film and TV Charity's office in Golden Square, London.
