Project Lead - Action for Freelancers

About the Role:

Action for Freelancers (AfF) is a collaborative initiative aimed at supporting freelancers in the UK television industry. As the Project Lead, you will play a crucial role in driving this pan-industry collaboration forward, working closely with stakeholders, workstreams, and experts to achieve tangible outputs.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the UK Broadcast TV freelancing community, with experience in managing complex projects, developing and delivering successful programs, and championing work in diversity, equity, and inclusion, mental health, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage the implementation of the Freelance Charter, revising and relaunching it as a key deliverable.
  2. Convene groups of experts to ensure a true, pan-industry collaboration, setting objectives and outputs, and keeping pace to deliver milestones.
  3. Work with ScreenSkills to develop The Freelancer Hub, bringing together all relevant resources, support services, and initiatives in one place.
  4. Explore initiating a review with the British Screen Forum to assess how other countries approach the legal engagement status of their creative freelancers.
  5. Manage AfF membership, identifying future participants, and managing relationships with members and partners.
  6. Oversee funding and payments processes, ensuring compliance with competition law.

Requirements:

  1. Experience working on scripted or non-scripted productions as a TV freelancer.
  2. In-depth knowledge of the UK Broadcast TV freelancing community and ways of working in the independent sector.
  3. Strong contacts and networks within the field of TV production or the ability to develop such networks.
  4. Excellent organisation, time management, and networking skills.
  5. Experience working on complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, project strands, and task prioritisation.
  6. Awareness of Competition Law and the ability to ensure compliance.
  7. Experience researching, organising, and summarising complex data, and converting it into effective messaging and reporting.
  8. Evidence of championing work in diversity, equity, and inclusion, mental health, and wellbeing.

Practicalities:

  1. This is an initial 1-year contract for 4 days/week, with flexible working arrangements, job share, and hybrid working considered.
  2. The salary is £73-83k per annum (4-day week), with a full-time equivalent salary of £85-95k.
  3. The role will be hybrid, with some remote working, and the office is based at the Film and TV Charity's office in Golden Square, London.
