About the Team

The Cyber Security division at HMRC operates under the Chief Digital Information Office (CDIO), tasked with evaluating business and reputational risks across one of Europe’s largest IT infrastructures. Our Cyber Security Technical Services (CSTS) and the Government Security Centre for Cyber (Cyber GSeC) play a crucial role in equipping our team to manage security responsibilities effectively and develop the skills necessary to identify, prevent, and respond to security threats.

We aim to be recognized as a leading center of expertise, collaborating across government to deliver comprehensive, customer-focused cyber security services that adapt to evolving technologies and the dynamic threat landscape.

Role Responsibilities

As a Principal Cyber Security Professional, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team within CSTS. Your role will involve:

  • Collaborating with senior business and technical stakeholders to provide risk-based technical security guidance.
  • Leading efforts to secure HM Government’s services by delivering high-quality technical security advice.
  • Supporting the Head of Capability in implementing enterprise-wide security technology changes.
  • Possibly taking on line management responsibilities to foster team development.

  • A proven track record of achieving significant outcomes in complex environments.
  • Confidence in engaging with the UK security community and representing HMRC at various events.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to share knowledge and build consistency in our operations.

Key Responsibilities

Your main duties will include:

  • Enhancing the technical security capabilities of the CSTS and Cyber GSeC teams.
  • Contributing to the formulation of security principles aligned with business risks.
  • Providing effective advice to inform business decisions regarding security measures.
  • Collaborating with security teams across government to offer subject matter expertise.
  • Researching and adopting new technologies and methodologies to improve security practices.

  • In-depth knowledge of security and privacy risks, including confidentiality and integrity.
  • Experience in applying technical security in practical environments.
  • Strong relationship management skills with senior partners and stakeholders.
  • Proven success in delivering security aspects of major projects.
