Position Overview
Are you a skilled nursing professional dedicated to providing exceptional patient care? The Preoperative Assessment and Management Service (PreAMS) offers a unique opportunity to advance your nursing career.
PreAMS is a pioneering service that plays a crucial role in preparing patients for surgical procedures. We seek innovative and proactive individuals with a surgical background to deliver education and clinical guidance within our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong health assessment capabilities and preferably be an independent non-medical prescriber or actively pursuing this qualification.
The successful candidate will oversee high-complexity clinics and serve as a clinical resource for the broader PreAMS team. While the following responsibilities are outlined, they are not exhaustive due to the dynamic nature of this distinctive role and service.
Our service operates seven days a week across multiple locations, offering opportunities for flexible working arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Function as an autonomous senior clinical Nurse Practitioner within a Nurse-Led Service.
- Manage a personal patient caseload daily while supervising the caseloads of junior colleagues as needed. The Practitioner is accountable for conducting nursing assessments of patients prior to elective surgery and coordinating care provision upon hospital admission, including initiating discharge planning.
- Provide patients and their caregivers with comprehensive information regarding their surgical procedures and anaesthesia, ensuring that every patient is fully informed about their upcoming interventions.
- Evaluate adult patients' fitness for anaesthesia before elective surgery by performing clerking, medical and anaesthetic history assessments, and conducting thorough physical examinations to ensure appropriate investigations are completed. Prescribe medications in accordance with established protocols, refer patients for necessary investigations, follow up on results, and collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to determine surgical suitability.
