Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opening within the Pharmacy division at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust for a Governance Manager and Trust Medication Safety Officer. This pivotal role is designed to enhance our learning environment and foster collaboration with primary care partners to ensure the utmost safety for our patients.

Reporting directly to the Director of Pharmacy, you will play an integral role in the Pharmacy Leadership Team, contributing to the Trust's Patient Safety initiatives as we adopt the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) within our organization and the broader healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the execution and advancement of all facets of the medication safety agenda throughout the Trust.
  • Establish systems to enhance learning from medication safety incidents.
  • Spearhead the integration of medication safety within the Trust's PSIRF initiatives.
  • Collaborate with and manage the Pharmacy Governance Team, the Trust Medication Safety Group, and lead clinicians to drive improvements in medication safety across the Trust.
  • Formulate, implement, and assess standards for the safe and secure use of medications.
  • Partner with Integrated Care Board (ICB) stakeholders to interpret national and local directives, influencing the focus of clinical governance related to medications across the integrated care system.
  • Create educational and training resources, including reports on medication management within the Trust, and conduct research and audits to support innovative practices and maintain robust medication management systems.
  • Oversee the Pharmacy medication advisory service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (UK).
  • Proven evidence of reflective practice and ongoing professional development.
  • Management qualification or equivalent specialist management knowledge gained through training and experience at a Master's level.

Desirable

  • Senior Leadership accreditation (NHS Leadership Academy or equivalent).
  • Membership in APTUK, RPS, UKCPA, or other professional bodies.
  • Formal management training.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Leadership experience in Pharmacy at 8a grade level or higher in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in operational and staff management, along with senior/middle management training.
  • Background in service redesign and familiarity with tools and techniques for evaluating the impact of change.
  • Knowledge of operational and legal standards related to Pharmacy and medications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in healthcare.

Desirable

  • Experience in engaging patients and/or customers in service development initiatives.

Leadership Skills

Essential

  • Proven experience in managing and actively participating in continuous improvement and change management programs in complex environments.
  • Ability to influence others, motivate staff, and manage change effectively.
