Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all clinical duties while rotating through various departments under the guidance of senior radiographers, ensuring high standards of clinical practice are upheld.
  • Serve as the lead radiographer in the general X-ray section and during on-call hours, effectively managing patient flow and supervising the radiographic and student teams.
  • Minimize radiation exposure for patients during procedures through careful positioning and the use of collimation.
  • Assume responsibility for compliance with IR(ME)R and IRR99 regulations, staying informed about national standards and guidelines.
  • Monitor departmental Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL) and Dose Investigation Levels (DIL), reporting any excess doses or radiation incidents appropriately.
  • Participate in training programs to meet departmental standards and be open to guidance and feedback as needed.
  • Consult with modality leads when faced with new or atypical situations, particularly regarding patient examination requests.
  • Ensure timely completion of competency assessments and maintain proficiency in all designated areas.
  • Capable of performing complex CT scans independently or during out-of-hours shifts, including intravenous cannulation and safe administration of iodinated contrast media.

Detailed Responsibilities

The successful candidate will rotate through all areas of the radiology department, taking on the role of coordinator and supervisor in both general X-ray and CT sections.

A high level of competence in various X-ray and CT examinations is essential for this position.

The supervisory aspect of this role requires the candidate to demonstrate leadership qualities and initiative, supporting junior staff and contributing to departmental goals.

The candidate will be expected to initiate and complete tasks that enhance patient care and service delivery, undertaking any reasonable assignments delegated by the lead radiographer.

Participation in the 24-hour shift rota is anticipated once competencies in general X-ray and theatre are achieved.

Additionally, the candidate will act as the lead radiographer during out-of-hours shifts upon completion of CT competencies. A collaborative spirit, commitment to patient care, and a proactive attitude are crucial for success in this role.

Education and Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • BSc. (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • HCPC registration.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in intravenous cannulation.

Skills and Abilities

Essential Criteria

  • Proficiency in performing a wide range of plain film X-rays to a high standard, including adaptive techniques.
  • Capability to conduct both non-contrast and contrast-enhanced CT scans.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in fluoroscopy and interventional imaging procedures.

Experience

  • Previous experience within the NHS and the ability to supervise the work of others.
  • Demonstrated first-line leadership skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Cath Lab and Cardiac CT imaging.
  • Familiarity with Soliton RIS, Sectra PACS, and CareFlow systems.
