Job Title: Clinical Health Psychologist

This is a consultant-level post that requires extensive clinical experience in pain management, as well as broader physical health and rehabilitation psychology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver care for patients living with persistent pain conditions, including acute-on-chronic pain flare-ups and associated use of urgent and emergency care.
  • Lead on pain psychology pathways, overseeing the provision of and delivering short-term assessment, formulation, and intervention across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide integrated multidisciplinary care across inpatient and outpatient pathways to patients referred by multidisciplinary team colleagues.
  • Train and support multidisciplinary team colleagues in psychologically informed care, including education and consultation.
  • Provide clinical supervision to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Routinely undertake research, audit, and service evaluation projects, including reports of clinical activity and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team promotion of patient need, clinical symptoms, and approaches to care.
Person Specification:
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS).
  • Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialized areas of clinical practice.
  • Strong commitment to CPD as evidenced by post-qualification training.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualification in supervision.
  • History of leadership training and experience.
  • Well-developed highly specialized knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological models and therapies/interventions in clinical psychology and health psychology.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of psychology theory and practice, assessment, psychological therapies, and their application.
  • Experience of two or more distinct psychological therapies.
  • Evidence of significant post-qualification continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC and BPS.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within applied psychology.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, policies, and guidelines in health and neuropsychology.
  • Demonstrated experience as a HCPC registered practitioner psychologist within physical health psychology.
  • Able to work with a range of complex clinical presentations in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, community.
