Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Maintenance Specialist to join our team at HMP Northumberland. As a Fire Maintenance Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our facility.

Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular fire safety maintenance tasks, including repairs and equipment checks, to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Contribute to the provision and maintenance of a safe environment within HMP Northumberland, working collaboratively with other teams to achieve this goal.
  • Carry out fire safety equipment checks on items such as fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and fire hoses, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance your skills and knowledge in fire safety and maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and management to ensure seamless operation of the facility.
  • Ensure all work is carried out to relevant trade standards and in accordance with good practice and current legislation.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Participate in 'out of hours call out procedures' on an 'On Call' rota system, responding promptly to emergencies and taking appropriate action.
  • Escort specialist contractors and work alongside them as required, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
Requirements
  • A positive approach to Health and Safety, with a proactive and systematic approach to tasks.
  • Able to work to correct time schedules and deadlines, with the ability to perform tasks alone or in a team to a high standard without constant supervision.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Able to assist other trades within the establishment, with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
