Overview: The Retail Store Manager in Training plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of a retail establishment for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its associated entities. This position is essential in supporting the mission of Goodwill to reduce unemployment through effective management of store activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulates and implements a comprehensive retail operations strategy to meet financial targets, including daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
  • Collaborates with the Retail District Manager to devise and execute strategic initiatives aimed at increasing donations.
  • Regularly assesses product inventory levels to ensure alignment with sales objectives and operational budgets.
  • Manages payroll and operational expenses to remain within budgetary constraints.
  • Ensures exceptional customer service is delivered by all team members to both donors and shoppers.
  • Maintains a clean and organized store environment that reflects the Goodwill brand positively.
  • Engages with local businesses and community organizations to advocate for the Goodwill mission.
  • Demonstrates consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Acts as a representative of Goodwill within the community.
  • Flexibly transfers between store locations as required by business needs.
  • Provides support in various stores as necessary to meet operational demands.
  • Guarantees that all team members receive appropriate training and understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensures Donation Attendants provide outstanding service in processing donations and that items are sorted and prepared efficiently.
  • Oversees the Production Team to ensure products are processed, priced, and displayed according to company standards.
  • In collaboration with the Retail District Manager, coordinates with other store locations to optimize donation allocation and team performance.
  • Ensures compliance with company standards and procedures among all team members.
  • Possesses reliable transportation for tasks such as bank deposits and inter-store support.
  • Partners with various support departments (e.g., Asset Protection, Human Resources) to achieve business objectives and ensure adherence to policies and regulations.
  • Builds and nurtures a high-performing team.
  • Responsible for managing team performance, including coaching, disciplinary actions, and conducting annual reviews.
  • Ensures effective performance management by the Assistant Store Manager for Retail Store Associates.
  • Contributes significantly to initiatives aimed at fostering a positive company culture.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in Retail Management, preferably in a thrift environment.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings as required.
  • Proficient in reading and speaking English.
